Walking Stories :::

Locative Media audio walk 2011

Walking Stories

Walking Stories is an augmented reality Soundwalk through Dundrum village guided by a location-aware smartphone app.

Starting at the Carnegie Library the soundwalk unfolds in Dundrum village leading participants on a narrative trail which recounts the personal stories that connect people to specific locations. Walking Stories reveals a virtual world of memories, associations and connections that underpin a community.

Walking Stories asks what it is that connects us to the spaces we live and work in and invites us to share in the personal memories that create a place.

The project was available as an augmented reality mobile app working on the Layar platform, as a series of situated QR codes which played the story for each location when scanned, and as a printed map and website which allowed users to download story mp3s to personal mp3 players to be used in conjunction with the map.

Walking Stories was commissioned for Unfolding Narratives 2011 curated by Annette Moloney and Maeve Mulrennan and commissioned by DĂșn Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.
